Voting Information

Election Day is October 18, 2010

Regular Election Day Voting Stations are open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

On Election Day Calgarians will elect the following positions for the 2010 to 2013 term:

Mayor — elected city-wide
14 Aldermen — 1 elected per ward
7 Calgary Public School Board Trustees — per 2 city wards
7 Calgary Catholic School Board Trustees — per 2 city wards

Who can vote?

You must be a qualified elector (voter) to vote in the municipal election. That means on Election Day you must be:

at least 18 years old;
a Canadian citizen;
a resident of the city of Calgary for Mayor and Alderman, and resident of the Calgary Board of Education for Public School Trustee or the Calgary Roman Catholic Separate School District No. 1 for Separate School Trustee; and
have resided in Alberta for six consecutive months immediately preceding Election Day.

Enumeration

The Enumeration of eligible electors was conducted in April 2010 for this General Election.

A Voting Register Card has been prepared for each elector enumerated in April, and should be at the Voting Station on Election Day.

What if I wasn’t enumerated or have moved?

You can vote even if you were not enumerated.

If you meet the requirements you are eligible to vote. Go to the Voting Station for the Voting Subdivision in which you live on Election Day. A Deputy Returning Officer (DRO) at the Voting Station will complete a Voting Register Card for you.

If you have moved since the Enumeration in April 2010, do not return to your old voting location. Where you live on Election Day determines your Voting Station. If there is no pre-printed Voting Register Card for you, one will be prepared when you arrive to vote.

Advance Vote Qualifications

All eligible electors can vote at any advance voting station.
